FUNCTIONAL

Medicine

At Somos Mirada, we specialize in comprehensive eyelid care, addressing a variety of conditions that can affect the health and functionality of the eyelids. From the treatment of eyelid cancer to the correction of disorders such as entropion, ectropion, facial paralysis, acquired and congenital ptosis, our team of experts offers customized and effective solutions to improve our patients’ quality of life.

What conditions do we treat?

CONGENITAL PTOSIS

Congenital ptosis in children: Refers to drooping of the eyelid present from birth. It can affect one or both eyes, causing anything from a slight drooping to complete concealment of the pupil. At Somos Mirada, we offer specialized evaluation and treatment for this pathology, which can be associated with additional visual problems.

ACQUIRED PTOSIS

Acquired ptosis, also known as adult ptosis, refers to the drooping of one or both upper eyelids that develops after birth. At Somos Mirada, we offer specialized evaluation and treatments to address acquired ptosis and restore function and esthetics of our patients’ eyelids.

Entropion and Ectropion

Entropion is an inward malposition of the eyelid, while ectropion is the opposite. Patients with entropion usually present with discomfort on the corneal surface due to contact with the eyelashes. Ectropion causes eversion of the lower eyelid, which can lead to dry eyes and corneal exposure. At Somos Mirada, we offer specialized treatments to correct both conditions, restoring functionality and comfort to our patients’ eyes.

EYELID CANCER

Eyelid skin cancer, mainly basal cell carcinoma, is highly treatable, with a 99 % cure rate with the Mohs technique. Our advanced reconstructive techniques ensure optimal esthetic and functional results. Other types of eyelid skin cancer, such as squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma, require early care to prevent avoid complications.

FACIAL PARALYSIS

Facial paralysis is characterized by the inability to contract the muscles in the affected area of the face, which may result in the inability to close the eye completely. This can increase the risk of complications such as corneal desiccation, keratitis, ulcers and infections, which can permanently affect vision. At Somos Mirada, we use advanced oculoplastic techniques to improve the closure of the affected eye and prevent these complications.

Blepharospasm

Botulinum toxin, known in medicine for more than 15 years, has proven effective in both medical and cosmetic treatments. In the medical field, it is used to treat benign essential blepharospasm, a condition that causes involuntary eye twitching, and hemifacial spasm, which is characterized by twitching on one half of the face. These treatments allow patients to regain functionality and improve their quality of life.
